Robert McCardle SR (220) and David Fitzpatrick, JR (170) competed at the Division II District Wrestling Tournament at Norwalk High School this weekend. District qualifiers enter the weekend with hopes of extending their season one more week by placing in the top 4 in their respective weight classes and qualifying to the OHSAA State Tournament in Columbus. Despite wrestling exceptionally well, both Clippers fell short in qualifying for State.
David Fitzpatrick lost two nail biters to state ranked seniors from Sandusky and Lima Shawnee. David was wrestling great in both matches. Unfortunately, both opponents capitalized on a minor mistake, costing him the matches. David had a remarkable junior season, ending with 34 wins (the majority ending in pin). This District Wrestling experience will only prove to be helpful in his Senior year.
Robert McCardle lost a close opening round match to his Toledo Central Catholic opponent by a score of 4-2. He then bounced back with a 9-6 win over Clyde. This set up a rematch of last week’s Sectional final against a tough Bay Village foe. Trailing by three points with 25 seconds left, Robert tried a late throw attempt, which was defended as time ticked off the clock. He finished his Senior season with 20 wins and a top 32 place in the State of Ohio.
Congratulations to the entire wrestling team on a great season!
