PARMA — For the Clearview Clippers on Tuesday night at Padua, it was a tale of two halves. The Clippers played a solid first half but struggled in the second half as Padua ran past them to defeat them 62-43 in non-conference action.
Clearview got a quick start from senior C.J. Fleming, who scored the first 7 for the Clippers in giving the Clippers an early lead. Fleming added 6 more in the second quarter to give him 13 in the first half. Joseph Norris also contributed 10 points in the first half. Clearview led 14-12 after a quarter and led 30-23 at halftime.
Clearview started well in the third quarter, pushing the lead out to 36-28 at one point. But then it all fell apart for Clearview.
Padua’s David Rice caught fire, hitting six three-point field goals in the second half as part of a 31-2 run that lapsed between the end of the third and the start of the fourth quarters that turned an 8-point lead into a 21-point deficit. Clearview could not score on the offensive end consistently in the second half, scoring only 13 points in the half as they struggled to stay in the ballgame against Padua’s hot shooting.
Clearview drops to 3-6 overall while Padua improves to 4-7 on the season. Clearview returns to Lorain County League play on Friday night on the front end of a back-to-back, facing Keystone away on Friday before returning home for a Saturday night non-conference showdown with Amherst.
The Bruins swept the evening, winning the freshman game 59-34 and the junior varsity game 44-30.
