Girls Junior Varsity Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Basketball: Raiders Pull Away in 3rd Quarter to Defeat Clearview

COLUMBIA STATION — Columbia used a 15-3 third quarter to pull away and defeat Clearview 52-38 in Lorain County League action on Saturday afternoon.

The Clippers seemed to be playing behind most of the day, although they kept the game close in the first half.  Clearview trailed 15-11 after a quarter and 23-18 at the half.

But the third quarter was all Columbia.  The Clippers were held scoreless for over six minutes as Columbia imposed their will on the offensive and defensive ends.  When the dust settled, Columbia was up 38-21.

Clearview had a short spurt in the fourth quarter to give you the thought it might get interesting — Clearview had a 5-point offensive trip early in the fourth quarter.  Ariana Vazquez scored a basket and foul but missed the free throw.  Brooke Rebman grabbed the offensive board and scored a bucket with a foul to get the old-fashioned three point play.  But Emma Roberts and Allyson Ross proved to be too much for the Clippers down the stretch.

Columbia’s Allyson Ross and Clearview’s Brooke Rebman tied for game-high scoring honors with 22 points each.  Columbia’s Emma Roberts also added 18 of her own.

Columbia improves to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the Lorain County League, while Clearview drops to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Lorain County League.

In Junior Varsity action, Columbia defeated Clearview 31-12.
