Boys Varsity Football · Varsity Football: Clippers Dominate Vermilion, Win 46-0

VERMILION — The Clearview Clippers dominated from start to finish against Vermilion, winning their second straight game to open the season, 46-0 at Vermilion on Friday night.

Clearview controlled the game from the start.  Vermilion went 3-and-out on its opening possession, and the Clippers answered with an 80-yard drive to take the lead.  Chase Christensen found Jordan Reed for a 15-yard touchdown pass to give the Clippers a 6-0 lead.

Jordan Reed stepped up later in the quarter on the defensive with his first interception of the night, giving Clearview the ball on their own 30.  The Clippers scored off the turnover, as Chase Christensen scored on an 18-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 14-0 after a quarter.

Clearview scored on its opening possession of the second quarter, as Christensen threw his second touchdown pass, this time a 1-yard connection to Hiram Carreras, extending the Clearview lead to 22-0.  The Clippers would add a safety as Vermilion had trouble with a snap while attempting a punt deep in their own territory to extend the lead to 24-0.  On the ensuing kickoff following the safety, Hiram Carreras returned the ball 57 yards to set up a Chase Christensen to CJ Fleming 8-yard touchdown pass to give the Clippers a 30-0 lead at halftime.

With the running clock in place in the second half, the Clippers continued to dominate.  Jordan Reed picked off his second pass of the night in the third quarter, leading to a methodical drive that concluded with a 6-yard touchdown run by Chase Christensen to put the Clippers up 38-0.  Late in the game, Trey Allen had a pair of successful runs, culminating with a 7-yard touchdown run and a Tyler Bockwich run on the conversion to give the Clippers the 46-0 win.

Defensively, the Clippers dominated the line of scrimmage all night, causing fits for the Sailors.  Unofficially, the Clippers held Vermilion to 67 yards from scrimmage tonight, with 47 of the 67 coming on a single play.

Clearview is now 2-0 to open the season.  Next week, the Clippers will open their home schedule against John Hay.  Kickoff is at 7 p.m. next Friday from Tom Hoch Field.
