Boys Varsity Basketball · Boys Basketball: Clippers Withstand Keystone Rally, Move to 7-1 On Season

SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP — The Clearview Clippers showed their resiliency tonight, withstanding a furious rally from Keystone to get back into the game, and move to 7-1 overall with a 64-49 in a Patriot Athletic Conference crossover matchup.

The Clippers dominated the first half.  Clearview led 15-6 after a quarter and led 38-21 at the half, leading by as many as 20 in the first half at 34-14.  The Clippers forced 15 Keystone turnovers in the half, and had eight players in the scorebook in the half, led by Chase Christensen and Jamir Billings who each had 9 points in the half.

But Keystone didn’t quit.  The Wildcats went to their bench to start the second half and their reserves made a strong push.  Keystone outscored Clearview 20-10 in the quarter as the Wildcats forced ten Clearview turnovers in the quarter, pulling with 7 at 48-41 after three.

Keystone’s Sean Satterlee hit a three early in the fourth quarter to pull Keystone as close as four points at 48-44.  From there, the Clippers took back over.  Jaylen Paschel had 8 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, and Javon Todd hit a critical three to extend the Clearview lead to 57-47, opening the game again.

Jaylen Paschel and Jamir Billings tied for team-high scoring honors for the Clippers tonight, each with 12 points.  Joe Norris added 11 off the bench while Chase Christensen scored 9 in his first start on the season.  Bryan Sayers had 11 points to lead the Wildcats.

Clearview improves to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the Patriot Athletic Conference, while Keystone falls to 7-5 overall and 6-1 in the Patriot Athletic Conference.  Clearview will host Brooklyn on Friday night in a PAC Stripes Division matchup, which will be the Hurricanes’ final visit to Clearview as a PAC rival for boys basketball.

In the junior varsity contest, Keystone defeated Clearview 64-46.  The freshmen game went to Clearview, as the Clippers squeaked by Keystone 33-31.
