Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Basketball: Blue Streaks Rally Past Clippers

SANDUSKY — The Sandusky Blue Streaks scored almost as many points in the fourth quarter as they did in the first three, and it was enough for them to erase a nine-point second half deficit and rally past Clearview, 50-45, in non-conference action on Saturday.

Both teams battled foul trouble during the game.  Combined, five players had four or more fouls.  Despite all the fouls, neither team did well at the foul line — Clearview shot 12 of 24 while Sandusky shot 13 of 25.  But the Blue Streaks hit four straight free throws down the stretch to seal the game at the victory.

Clearview led 12-8 after a quarter and held a 26-19 lead at the break.  Clearview pushed the lead to 28-19 on a Brooke Rebman bucket early in the third quarter as Clearview built its largest lead.  But Sandusky rallied from there.  In a low scoring third quarter, Sandusky outscored Clearview 8-6 to cut the lead to 32-27 after three.

Sandusky took over in the fourth quarter, outscoring Clearview 23-13.  Janeece Lee scored all of her 12 points in the fourth quarter for the Blue Streaks, while Marissa Esposito had 6 of her 12 in the fourth quarter as well.  Both Lee and Esposito tied for team-high scoring honors for Sandusky.  Clearview struggled down the stretch, going 3-of-6 at the free throw line and turning the ball over six times in the fourth quarter.

Brooke Rebman led the Clippers with 18 points.  Olivia Romes and Sam Jancsura added 7 each while Madilyn Love came off the bench for 5 points.

Clearview falls to 2-2 overall, and will be back in the PAC on Wednesday night when the Lady Clippers host the Columbia Raiders.  Sandusky improves to 2-2 on the season.

In Junior Varsity action, the Sandusky Blue Streaks defeated Clearview 25-17.
