Girls Junior Varsity Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Basketball: Clippers Defeat Black River to Move to 2-0

SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP — Clearview did what it needed to today, forcing defensive pressure in key moments and getting enough situational offense to pull away from Black River for a 47-21 win in both teams’ Patriot Athletic Conference opener.

The Clipper pressure forced 20 Black River turnovers in the victory today, and the pressure defense held the Pirates to only four made field goals in the first three quarters.

Black River scored the first three points of the game on a Lydia Wacker triple, but Clearview scored the next 13 straight, taking the lead and never trailing again.  The game remained close — 21-9 at halftime — before Clearview used a 16-2 blitz in the third quarter to pull away and secure the victory.

Offensively, sophomore Brooke Rebman led all scorers with 26 points.  Fellow sophomore Olivia Romes added 7 points and junior Ariana Vazquez added 6.

Lydia Wacker and Kennedy Petruzzi tied for team-high scoring for Black River with 5 points each.

Clearview improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Patriot Athletic Conference.  They will host Lutheran West in a PAC Stripes Division matchup on Wednesday night, with the Junior Varsity game beginning at 6 p.m. and the Varsity to follow.

In Junior Varsity action, the Lady Clippers also defeated Black River 22-10.  The JV Clippers are also 2-0 on the season.
