Both JD McCardle (285) and Julian Colbert (170) placed second in their weight classes at the PAC Championships at Brooklyn High School on Saturday.
Clearview only had four wrestlers competing at the Conference Tournament but the wrestlers made the most of it.
JD McCardle opened his day by pinning Brookside’s Josh Eschke in 14 seconds in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, JD pinned Columbia’s Elijah Caraballo in 1:24 to advance to the final. JD was pinned in the final by Firelands’s Sean Lipscomb to place second.
Julian Colbert opened his day by pinning Columbia’s Tyler Sayles in 1:06 in the quarterfinals. Advancing to the semifinals, Julian pinned Lutheran West’s Garrett Frye in 2:48 to advance to the final. Julian lost by technical fall in the final to Buckeye’s Jarrod Setliff.
Jeri Ruiz (152) opened his day by losing via technical fall to Fairview’s Ian McClintock. Wrestling in the consolation bracket, Jeri pinned Brooklyn’s Jimmy Gray in 1:20 to advance to the consolation semifinals, where he was pinned by Keystone’s Hudson Hall in 59 seconds, ending his day at 1-2.
Angel Beauchamp (145) also wrestled for the Clippers, being pinned in his opening match by Buckeye’s Jaret Lowry in 2:16, then being pinned in the consolation bracket by Fairview’s Timothy Paxton in 2:00.
The shorthanded Clippers placed tenth as a team with 39 points. Buckeye won the tournament with 191 team points, followed by Keystone in second place (104), Firelands in third (90) and Fairview in fourth (89.5).
The Clipper wrestlers will now prepare for the Division III sectional tournament, to be held on Saturday, February 24 at Independence.
