For the third time in the last four games, the Lady Clippers have come up a winner. Clearview, behind a season-high 32 points from Brandyce Smith, defeated host Brooklyn 58-55 in overtime.
After a back-and-forth first quarter that featured five lead changes, the Hurricanes took control midway through the second quarter, opening up a 7-point halftime lead at 25-18. The Lady Clippers rallied to tie the game at 29, before the Hurricanes went on another run, leading by as many as 7 twice in the fourth quarter, including at 44-37 before going on a 10-3 run to tie the ballgame at 47. Vanecia Billings’ layup with about a minute to play gave the Clippers a 2-point lead. Brooklyn’s Jelly Benz tied the ballgame at 49-49 with a running layup of her own with about 10 seconds left to force overtime.
In the extra period, the Clippers started fast. Brandyce Smith scored the first four points of the overtime and the Clippers held on for the win.
The Lady Clippers improve to 4-10, 3-7 in the PAC. They will travel to Firelands on Saturday for a PAC crossover matchup.
The Junior Varsity Lady Clippers also won tonight at Brooklyn, 40-37.
